Overview of SeniorNet Nelson’s Website
Home Page Overview:
The home page is the welcome page (screen) and there are links to many other areas from this page. You need to scroll down to see everything on this page. The Links are in blue and are often underlined.
- Menus – there are 2 main menus, one down the left-hand side and a drop-down menu across the top.
- Breadcrumb – straight under the drop-down menu, this always tells you where you are and gives a quick way to the home page.
Down the left-hand side of the screen:
- How to find us – opens a Google Map.
- Click to email us – opens an email addressed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for you to ask questions or send content and suggestions. The email will be passed on to the appropriate person to help you. Click to email your ideas – they will be welcomed.
- Update your details (contact details, operating systems, etc) – bottom left. When you click here, an email form opens and it is addressed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Sending it will allow us to update the database.
- If you have changed your address, phone number, email address since joining SeniorNet Nelson, click to send an email with your new details.
- We also need to know when you change your computer or add devices. You could just say something like “I have scrapped my XP computer and I now have an Apple Mac – plus I now have an iPhone” or whatever - the more information the better. Tell us if you have moved to Windows 8 or bought an iPad or an Android Tablet or Smartphone please.
- Your comments – Share your opinions on products, apps and services which may be helpful to other members. When your click here you will be taken to the Your Comments section under the About menu.
At the top on the right-hand side of the screen:
- Facebook and Twitter links
- Search box - put in your keyword and tap Enter. A list of articles that word appears in will show. Scroll down until you find the article you want, e.g. skype or android.
- Font size options – these increase and decrease the size of the main article only.
To increase the size of the whole screen hold down Control and tap the + key (Contrl+). - Print icon – always use if you want to print from the site – or you can copy and paste.
- Email icon – you can email an article to yourself or a friend.
- New content module –. (Draws attention to any new additions)
- There are also modules for tips, safety hints and other quick links of interest.
Middle of the Page:
- Main article – contains latest news for upcoming events
Bottom of the page:
- Link to SeniorNet Federation at the bottom of the screen – find interesting information there.
- Names of photo contributors for the header images.
- Return to Top
Dropdown Menu and Left-Side Menu:
You will not have a Drop-Down menu if you are viewing on a small device.
In the drop-down menu if you click the menu heading an article will open, but if you click the down arrow next to the menu title a drop-down list will appear and you can find a link to the article you are interested in. Click and the article opens.
Click the menu title again to remove the drop-down list.
Clicking a heading in the left-hand menu will open a list of sub-categories for you to choose from.
NOTE: Use the back arrow to go back one screen at a time, or click another menu link.

COURSES A-Z has all the courses listed alphabetically.
The rest of the course menus are divide the courses into groups, either by their Operating System, or by a group of similar interests:

- EMail & Internet Courses
- iPad Courses
- Mac Courses
- Photography Courses
- Windows Courses
- Courses for any system
- Managing your computer
Note - when you click a heading in the left-side list, you will see a list of sub-categories on the right side of the page. You can sort these alphabetically by clicking Title.
Timetable:
Most important to members: this article shows when and where the classes are to be held, how much the course will cost and who to contact. The highlighted lines are the latest courses and workshops to be held.
Each course title, when clicked, is a link to an article explaining the course. e.g. wordpad – note that it tells a member the length of the course, the cost, which operating system the course applies to, what the prerequisites are, and what they will learn.)
At the bottom of each article there is a link to the This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. email if you need any more information.
Be aware that the contact for booking is not always the tutor, and that some contacts prefer you to email them.

For Tutors
Planner
A Google Calendar of events happening at the Learning Centre.
Only a few people can add or change the Planner. Most of the information comes from the Course Coordinator, so if you would ever like to use the Learning Centre for anything you need to call the Course Coordinator, Hilary Carpenter at this stage.
Hall Bookings - Also coordinated through Hilary.
Training Resources - Links to excellent sites with tutorials, etc that can be incorporated into a course.
Tutors only
This area contains documents that tutors need when doing preparation for Courses: things like the Tutors’ Handbook, Class Notification forms, Course Evaluation forms and Travel expenses claims. It is a sign in area for tutors only.
