SeniorHangouts News
Seniornet’s new Hangouts app was rolled out in early July for the first time. Chief Executive Heather Newell and Technical Director Dr Vinay Karanam demonstrated its abilities and features to a group of “buddies” or tutors from across the country.

The app, which will be available for Learning Centre members to enrol from July 20th, will go live on July 30th. It will be available for Android and iOS devices from the Google Playstore and Apple App Store as well as a web app used online with any browser.

From last November a test trial has been run using a combination of tools including Zoom Video Conferencing, Google Classrooms, cloud storage and email. Now all of these functions have been combined into one easy-to-use app. It will incorporate a forum or chat-room, a scheduling calendar with automatic notifications and a library of previously attended live sessions for later viewing.

Buddies were excited to see the long-awaited distance-learning app in action. It will revolutionise the way Learning Centres’ resources will be shared across the country.
